Encefalopatía por infección congénita por citomegalovirus

Introducción: La infección congénita por citomegalovirus (CMV) puede producir secuelas neurológicas. Presentamos tres casos de encefalopatía por CMV prenatal. Casos clínicos: todos los casos presentaron microcefalia, paresia espástica, déficit intelectivo, así como alteración del desarrollo cortical y calcificaciones cerebrales. Dos presentan hipoacusia y uno convulsiones. Un caso fue diagnosticado en el periodo neonatal, detectándose los otros dos por sintomatología neurológica progresiva. Conclusiones: la infección congénita por CMV debe considerarse en el diagnóstico etiológico de encefalopatía de causa no aparente. Abstract Introduction: Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection can produce neurologic sequelae. We report three cases of encefalopathy caused by prenatal CMV. Clinical cases: All of them presented microcephaly, spastic palsy, intelective defict, disorders of cortical development and cerebral calcifications. Two present hearing loss and one, seizures. One case was diagnosed in neonatal period, and the other two were detected because of progressive neurological symptoms. Conclusions: congenital CMV infection should be considered in encefalopathy with no obvious cause.
