Etiología y tratamiento de las infecciones oportunistas en el SIDA

La disregulación de la inmunidad en los pacientes con SIDA se traduce en una incapacidad para controlar las infecciones. Se indican los principales agentes patógenos que producen estas infecciones oportunistas, así como los métodos diagnósticos necesarios, generalmente invasivos, y el tratamiento específico tanto profiláctico como curativo. La dificultad que presenta el diagnóstico diferencial entre los distintos cuadros, debido a la similitud clínica y a la exasperante persistencia de las infecciones por la aparición de resistencias al tratamiento, así como la alta incidencia de reinfecciones, justifican esta revisión.
Etiology and treatment of opportunist infections in AIDS
The abnormal regulation of immunity in patients with AIDS cause incapability to control infections. We report the main pathogenic agents that produce these opportunist nfections and the diagnostic methods, that generally are quite invasive, and the speciíic treatment, both prophylactic and therapeutic. The interest of the present review is based on the difficulty of the differential diagnosis, due to the clinical similarity and on the persistence of infections because of the appearance of resistances to the drugs and also because of the high rate of reinfections.
