Objetivo: Se trata de un artículo de revisión que pretende una puesta al día en este problema tan frecuente y tantas veces silenciado y que todos los que trabajan con niños deben conocer. Desarrollo: El abuso sexual infantil es una patología muy frecuente, puesto que tiene una incidencia anual de 0,5 casos por 1.000 niños, y una prevalencia durante la etapa de 0 a 18 años de uno de cada seis chicos y una de cada cuatro chicas. Este abuso muchas veces no sale a la luz, debido al sometimiento del niño y a que no deja lesiones, o a que cuando acude al médico éstas han curado, o a que son de difícil diagnóstico. Conclusiones: Es muy importante que los profesionales que atienden a niños estén perfectamente concienciados de que el abuso sexual existe, ocurre con demasiada frecuencia y que ellos, como defensores del niño, deben estar atentos a los mínimos indicios para poder descubrirlo, denunciarlo por obligación y poder defender a esa criatura indefensa ante semejante crimen. Conclusions: It is very important that the professionals who attend to children are perfectly aroused of that the sexual abuse exists, it happens too often, and that they, as defenders of the child, must be attentive to the minimal indications to be able to discover, denounce it for obligation it, and to be able to defend to this defenseless creature before similar crime.
